Letter from the President

I'm Maris Medina, founder and President of JEGRO Corporation — the importer behind Greenware.

JEGRO began importing biodegradable food ware in 2010. We started with cornstarch-based products because that was the available plant-based alternative at the time. We discontinued the line when we found that cornstarch products still contained residual plastic content; donated remaining stock to feeding programs; and switched to sugarcane bagasse when it was introduced to the market, which we've carried as our core material ever since.

We were among the early importers of biodegradable food ware in the Philippines. The category took longer to reach scale than we expected, and there were years where the price gap with plastic made the business hard to justify. We stayed because we believed — and still believe — that plant-based food ware can compete on quality and reliability if it's held to a real standard. That belief is now the brand promise: if we make a claim, we can show you the proof.

Today, JEGRO operates an ISO 9001:2015-certified quality management system covering sourcing, importing, warehousing, sales and distribution. Our wood and bagasse imports carry Bureau of Plant Industry phytosanitary clearance and a current License to Operate. Our pulp-molded tableware and bagasse pulp straws are tested to EU LFGB standards, a representative lunch box is tested to U.S. FDA 21 CFR 176.170, and a representative bagasse meal box has passed Intertek microbiological testing.

We're a Manila-based team. You can reach us directly. Thank you for considering Greenware.
